Sushi Komasa
Sushi has a very special place in my heart. And when I crave it (which is often), I go to Little Tokyo. The unofficial, leading sushi trifecta in Little Tokyo seems to be Sushi Gen, Hama, and Komasa, with Oomasa and Sushi Go 55 close behind. Since it's difficult for me to say that one is far superior than the other, I like to do my "rounds." So when the famous kevinEats invited me to join him on his inaugural meal at Komasa, there was no second thought necessary. Needless to say, it was a splendid meal.
With two intense food-lovers, you are bound to see a constant flow of sushi flying from Chef Minoru's hands to our plates -- and that's precisely how it went down. Halibut, yellowtail, salmon, octopus, squid, sweet shrimp, eel, egg, fried shrimp head, red snapper, uni, albacore, simpson clam... am I forgetting anything? ;)
In short, the generous cuts of fish were fresh and buttery. The healthy servings of wasabi between the fish and the rice were welcomed by me, but it may not be everyone's fave. That also goes for the Chef's signature use of soy sauce and green onion on many of the nigiri. All in all, I trust you, Komasa. And I shall return.
