Naked Lunch

Let's get naked.
No, no, not like that!
Naked as in going back to basics and embracing the tender balance of simplicity and sophistication with a twist of innovation. (that doesn't make sense, but work with me).  If there's one place that knows how to do just that, it's Naked Lunch SF.

Located in North Beach, this lunch hot-spot usually has three sandwiches on their daily-changing menu.  Their house special and constant staple is their Artisan Foie Gras & Duck Prosciutto Sandwich.  Since that's way too heavy of a midday meal for me, I opted for the vegetarian sandwich with seasonal grilled asparagus, sprouts arugula, balsamic pickled onions, garlic aioli, and a Melon Aqua Fresca as my choice beverage. My BFF ordered the sweet corn soup (served chilled), chorioz, bacon and fried egg sandwich with basil and arugula, and a Cinnamon Sweet Tea. Everything was deliciouso!

The corn soup is typically served hot, but they wanted to try something new for the summer and served it chilled.  Needless to say, it was delicious!  I love how they serve is like a cup of cappuccino.

The cinnamon sweet tea was refreshing in its spicy/ sweet way, but the melon fresca took the show away.  It's fresh, almost frothy with melon puree that was sweet, but not too sweet.  Another great thing about NL's beverages is that if you don't finish it at the shop, you can take it to-go in their biodegradable cups.

The closest thing to NL here in LA is probably Mendocino Farms... but there's something about NL that sets it in a league of its own.  If you're in SF, definitely try to swing by this place for lunch and let me know what you ended up eating!  Maybe one day I'll try their famous Fried Chicken Sandwich (Tuesdays) or their ever-special Foie Gras Sadnwich.  'Till next time, NL...
