The Bronzed Aussie

Tucked away in an alleyway, The Bronzed Aussie is easy to miss. Let your nose guide you.

Every once in awhile I hesitate to post a review because of the irrational fear that the once-hidden gem will suddenly become popular and lose sight of the simple goal of feeding delicious food to satisfied patrons.  This is such a post.  But for some reason, I'm confident that The Bronzed Aussie, which has been around for almost a year, will continue to stay true to its roots and its friendly ways of Oz.

From their website:
Bronzed Aussie is the dream of Australian entrepreneur Samantha Bryan. Deciding she wanted to eat her native pies in Los Angeles, she teamed up with Michelin Star trained Australian executive chef, Lincoln Smith.
Pies are an icon in Australia and are enjoyed by people from all walks of life and all ages. We’re introducing a new level of quick-service, eat-in-your-hand, no fuss, affordable gourmet food.
Another little known secret about Australia is our love for quality espresso coffee. Bronzed Aussie will have an espresso bar serving the finest quality beans supplied by Longshot Coffee.

Pie + coffee?  Sold.

Cool magnetic posted on wall.

The anatomy of the Lamb, Rosemary, and Garlic pie [off-menu]:

Flaky, buttery golden, outer puff-pastry crust.

Peek-a-boo Madeira sauce gravy and chunks of carrot and peas.

Drizzle some tomahhhto sauce, known to Americans simply as "ketchup."

Conclusion: Not overly salty, not overly dense.  Flavourful and great to share with friends . . . unless you're greedy like me and feel compelled to finish the whole thing on your own (the individual pies aren't that big!).  For $7, you will get a tasty meal and/or snack.

The anatomy of the classic Ground Beef Pie:

Another flaky, buttery golden, outer puff-pastry crust.

Ground beef with onion.

Conclusion: Not as hearty or as flavourful as the lamb pie, but for $5, it will successfully satisfy your meat pie craving.

Alongside their meat pies, The Bronzed Aussie also offers sweet treats like custard tarts, pumpkin tarts, caramel slices, muffins, and Lamingtons.  Go enjoy a taste of the great Down Under in Downtown LA!
