Traxx (Union Station Los Angeles)

Holiday season usually means travel.  Whether we're traveling by car, train, or airplane, there is a destination in our near or sometimes, far future.  Heavy delays, attributed to terrible weather and unforeseen circumstances can make our destinations seem even further than when we first started.  If this is your case, and you find yourself at Union Station, I know the perfect place for you.  Even if you're not traveling, Traxx Restaurant is a destination you should keep on your dining itinerary.

Traxx is a fancier place than what you would normally find in a train station.  Before you turn to the snack cart, consider the delicious items on its menu and the fact that it includes a well-deserved respite from the hustle bustle.  If the weather is nice, as it has been lately in LA, I highly suggest you sit out on the back patio.

Traxx Burger with a side of fries -- $14

The Traxx Burger is simple -- juicy meat patty, cheese, tomato, lettuce, onions, enveloped in a lightly toasted brioche bun and topped with a couple of cornichons.  Yet in its simplicity, there is plenty of satisfaction.  Yummy!

Southwestern Black Bean & Quinoa Salad with avocado, tomato, cucumber, red bell pepper, red onion, and jalapeno lime vinaigrette -- $16

Fusilli with rock shrimp, radicchio, tomato, and pumpkin seed pesto -- $17

Ooh, rock shrimp.

All of the above-mentioned dishes are delicious in their own way (mmm, meat! mmm, pesto shrimp!), but my fave was the black bean and quinoa salad.  Even with so many flavors, everything melded so well together.  Plus, I felt semi-healthy eating it!

If you're in beautiful Union Station, but neither have the time or moola to spend on a full meal, you could hit up the Traxx Bar, which is located just diagonal from the restaurant.

Recommendations: Black bean and quinoa salad; burger, shrimp pesto pasta, crab cake.
