Brian's Shave Ice

LA has been hit by a heat wave for over a week now, and though weather forecasts predict a gradual cooling of temps, the blasting of AC and massive scoops of shave ice are still warranted.  Who're we kidding?  Shave ice is warranted any time of the year -- hot or cold out!

To satisfy my shave ice cravings, I turn to Brian's Shave Ice on Sawtelle & Olympic in West LA.  This hole-in-the-wall shop may be small, but it's so inviting with its brightly colored walls and friendly servers. A cheery mood always helps make food taste better.

My roommate's favorite is the Sourface II, which includes sour apple, lemon, pink lemonade, and topped with an mysterious "sour spray."  It is more sweet than sour, but refreshing nonetheless.

I typically like to make my own creation from the long list of many flavors.  Here, I chose a kiddie size of passion orange guava (POG), passion fruit, pineapple, topped with condensed milk and Maui Waui sherbert in the middle.  It was a delicious as it sounds!

Whether you're seeking a refreshing treat, or craving something sweet after your dinner, Brian's Shave Ice is a worthy place to visit.
