Maverick SF has a lot going for it.  True to its namesake, it continues to excel and push creativity without making many compromises.

To cleanse our palates, we were initially served an amuse bouche that resembled a plum-like flavor.  While I wasn't begging for a second round, it was sweet and refreshing.

Second, Fried Green Tomatoes.

Considering the only other time I sampled this traditional Southern dish was at a county fair in Los Angeles,  I am not a good judge of what is and what isn't "good fried green tomatoes."  Notwithstanding that, I have to admit that I found my green tomato pretty tasty.  I'm sure the batter played a major role.

Third, fried chicken, fried chicken, fried chicken.

Southern Fried Chicken - $24
After hearing all the rave reviews about this chicken, I had to try some for myself.  In short, the reviews are not exaggerated.  The meat is succulent, the batter is perfectly seasoned and crispy, the ham gravy is perfect.  And best of all, the portion is substantial!  I'm a happy camper.

K opted for the Fava Bean Agnolotti.

Fava Bean Agnolotti - $20
I appreciate vegetarian dishes, but something about this -- perhaps the parmesan broth -- makes the overall taste over salty.

Local Halibut - $26
The fish was fresh and balanced well with the sweet snap peas and fried wild rice (buried underneath the fish).

Flat Iron Steak - $25
The portion of the Flat Iron Steak looks deceivingly small, but apparently it was filling.

Along with delicious food, service was warm and welcoming.  Sitting by the kitchen was fun too.  Two thumbs up, Maverick.  Keep paving the way.
